Improving Your Skills
The trend for court reporting schools is to cut back on teachers and to rely on recorded dictation. While recordings allow the student to master specific vocabulary, build muscle memory and basic skills, recordings do not give those trying to learn the skill of court reporting everything necessary to master that skill. To learn machine shorthand, live dictation is essential. Only live dictation will quickly give the speed and accuracy necessary to graduate and be licensed as a court reporter, CART provider, or closed captioner.
Consider the concert pianist and how many times the scales must be practiced. Repeating the fundamentals is essential.
